Cookie & Storage Policy

Last updated: 1 March 2026  ยท  Effective: 1 March 2026

๐Ÿง™ Short version: FamWizard doesn't use advertising or tracking cookies. We store three small items in your browser's local storage โ€” strictly to keep you logged in. No trackers, no ads, no third-party data sharing.

1. Cookies vs Local Storage

FamWizard does not use traditional cookies. We use browser local storage โ€” a similar technology built into all modern browsers. It stores small amounts of data on your device but is not automatically sent to the server. Under the UK's Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR), local storage is subject to the same rules as cookies.

2. What We Store

ItemPurposeDurationCategory
fw_sessionA cryptographically random token that keeps you logged in. Without it you'd be logged out every time you close your browser.30 days or logoutNecessary
fw_session_expiryExpiry timestamp of your session, so the app knows when to ask you to log in again.30 days or logoutNecessary
fw_family_nameYour family name, stored locally to greet you on return visits.30 days or logoutNecessary

That is everything. No advertising identifiers, analytics scripts, tracking pixels, or third-party storage items of any kind.

3. Third-Party Services

FamWizard loads fonts from Google Fonts. Google receives your IP address as part of a normal font file request and may set their own storage. See Google's cookie policy. No other third-party scripts, analytics, or advertising networks are present in FamWizard.

4. Do We Need Your Consent?

Under PECR, strictly necessary storage โ€” storage essential to provide a service the user has explicitly requested โ€” does not require prior opt-in consent. All three items we store are strictly necessary: without them you cannot stay logged in. We therefore do not display a cookie consent banner for these items. If we ever add non-essential storage we will update this policy and implement proper consent before doing so.

5. How to Clear Storage

Clearing storage will log you out but will not affect your family data on our servers.

6. Two-Factor Authentication

If you enable 2FA, a "trusted device" flag is stored in our database (not in your browser). It expires after 30 days or on logout, and is used only to avoid asking for your code on every login.

7. Changes

If we introduce any new storage items we will update this policy first and notify users in-app for significant changes.
